Targeting new learning success with engaging and participative forms of learning.
–
Capture the imagination of children and then guide them on a journey to brand new worlds without putting any test anxiety in their backpacks: That is the big advantage that our (school camps) School Camps and (follow-up programmes) Follow-Up Programmes offer. Using participative approaches in our core and follow-up programmes, we transform disengaged passivity into eager participation. This allows us to enable students to rediscover themselves as learning creatures – and curiosity-powered guardians of knowledge.
OUR SCHOOL CAMPS
–
Holistic learning at Pestalozzi Children’s Village
Each year, 15 to 20 school camps for 750 to 1,000 children take place in the beautiful setting of the Pestalozzi Children’s Village high above the town of Trogen in Appenzell. The primary school students experience an exciting 6-day programme with a balanced variety of workshops and instruction sessions.
We ensure an interesting mix of mental and physical activities in small groups so as to best engage the talent of each individual participant. The success of our holistic approach has been confirmed by our surveys. After having attended one of our school camps, around 42 percent of our students report finding science significantly more interesting than they previously did and 30 percent of all children report a persisting interest in classical music.
SEMINARS FOR OUR TEACHERS
–
Our school camps also feature advanced training seminars for our teaching staff. These seminars are led by faculty members at the St. Gallen University of Teacher Education. This programme element gives our teachers direct access to the latest teaching concepts, thereby helping to secure the success of our school camps.
OUR FOLLOW-UP PROGRAMMES
–
Promoting the retention of newly acquired knowledge
Many students reveal hitherto undiscovered talents and potential during our school camps. We use our follow-up programmes to continue supporting these children for a period of one year. One of our aims here is to make first-class educational opportunities available to underprivileged children. These opportunities include:
